whoa! woe!

There’s this throbbing pain deep within my eye sockets that serves as a reminder to never belt out cold and broken hallelujahs with Jeff Buckley before ugly crying in the grocery store parking lot. Six days ago and the headache rages on.

But you guys, life is tough!

Certainly not unbearably or even any more so than usual, so don’t get all weird on me, but it’s enough to deserve mentioning every once in a while to keep you from thinking that I’m a robot.

No way did you ever think that, but still.

Somewhat related, can you actually take video games away from your six-year-old until the day she moves out? Because I told her that I was doing that yesterday while she sassed and stomped away from me in the Target parking lot. Let’s be real, I’ll probably break before then with all the whining she’s sure to do and the whole pain in the eye socket thing, but I think she believed me for a second and that ruled.

It’s normal to feel like you’re not doing anything right, right?

  1. Life is super rough and youre totally entitled to break down in a parking lot once in a while. I do pretty often, actually. Every time we leave Target and the kids have been awful the whole trip and I feel like the worst mother in the world because I cant seem to control them, to be specific. It’s normal, I think, to feel like you arent doing anything right. But you’re kids are still alive, they’re smart, well-fed and happy, so you must be doing SOMETHING right. Hang in there, girlfriend.

    • Thanks so much, Ushie! Glad you can relate because that means at least we’re in this together. :) And your Target story? YES. There’s something about Target that turns my kids into total crazies!

  2. In a word, YES. I think life is a cycle. You go through phases where you feel like “yeah, I got this”, then another cycle of doubts, and then a cycle of “oh crap, I suck at this”. It’s normal. It’s ok to feel bad, but remember it happens to the best of us. Ugly crying…love that phrase. Whoever coined the phrase, “God doesn’t give you more than you can handle” is a moron. He sometimes does give us more than we can handle, but He is able to handle anything so it reminds me that my failures are there to remind me that I can’t do it on my own and that I need God to give me strength. Hang in there. You are in good company. Love you.
